Synopsis:
In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, the asylum has been operating in strict secrecy… until now.
Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.
Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind.

Outlast è un gioco horror in cui ci ritroveremo ad investigare su un manicomio. Sostanzialmente è uno di quei survival horror in cui bisogna scappare e nascondersi al sopraggiungere dei nemici, senza possibilità di difendersi da essi nel caso ci dovessero scovare. Un indie-horror focussato su tensione e jump-scare.
Atmosfera sopraffina ed ottimo mix tra elementi di altri classici (essere disarmato, nascondigli etc..) e novità come l'uso della telecamera (elemento iconico e conosciuto del gioco anche da chi non lo abbia provato).

Ambientazione top, il manicomio è fatto davvero bene e secondo me è uno di quei luoghi che funziona sempre bene. Il gioco è pieno zeppo di jumpscare, come è giusto che sia chiaramente per un horror. Questo tipo di horror non mi convince minimamente, anche se per carità, rispetto ad altri titoli contemporanei Outlast prova almeno a creare un'atmosfera.
Il problema è che è veramente pieno, fin da subito, di jumpscare abbastanza prevedibili che stemperano quel poco di terrore che era riuscito ad infondere nel giocatore.
